“The upper northeastern Isaan provincial town of Sakon Nakhon was the heart or Thailand’s unique forest monk tradition and still holds many meditation retreats hidden in the surrounding forests. Some 512kms from Bangkok, it’s connected to the capital by air-conditioned buses leaving daily from Mochit Northeastern bus station and arriving at a new bus terminal on the edge of the town. The journey takes around six hours.
Local songthaew buses or motorcycle taxis take arrivals on to downtown, and the new terminal also serves bus travel to and from Udon Thani and Nakhon Phanom. The town is located within the Phu Phan mountains, and can also be accessed by air from Bangkok to its small airport at a cost of around 2,000 baht.”
