“Mahasarakham is the main town in the Isaan region province of the same name. Known as Sarakham to its residents, it’s known for its university and is the region’s centre for Buddhism. Primarily agricultural rather than a tourist destination, the province and its capital are served by air-conditioned long-distance buses from Bangkok’s Mochit northeastern bus terminal.

Transport within the city is by songthaew, motorcycle taxi or tuk-tuk, all of which can be hired by the day for the 72km-trip to Khon Kaen or an exploration of the surrounding countryside and villages. Travel by train from Bangkok’s Hua Lumphong rail station to Khon Kaen and then a bus to Sarakham is another option.”
