“The small Isarn town of Kalasin is equi-distant between Khon Kaen and Roi Et in Northeast Thailand, some 500kms from Bangkok and has its own bus station. Air-conditioned buses depart from Bangkok Morchit station to Kalasin every few hours including overnight services that go directly to this town, taking about 6-7 hours.
An airport at Khon Kaen makes it realistic to fly to the area and take a local bus or taxi to Kalasin, about 40 minutes drive away. From Kalasin local buses depart to districts within the province. You can usually find a local moto-tuk tuk to take you into the town.
The bus station in Kalasin is typical of the provincial town terminuses, it’s at the North end of the city district on Pradit road near Kalasin Central Hospital. It has an open but covered waiting area, snacks vendors and a ticket office open until late. It’s better to stock up in advance at a nearby 7-Eleven. Overnight buses might be fully booked, so reserve in advance online.
There are a few places of interest in Kalasin, including the Culture & Tourism Promotion Center, Muang Fa Daet Sung Yang ancient town, Lam Pao Dam, Wat Sakkawan (where dinosaur bones were excavated and the Phrae Wa Silk silk co-operative.
There are a number of places to stay, such as the Pongtong Garden Resort, Chada View Hotel, TK Residences, and AP Garden hotel.”
